Soil preparation

Soil intended for next year's season needs to be ploughed every couple of years and fertilized with organic supplements. It also should be limed every 2-3 years in order to reduce its acidity.  Those activities should be done interchangeably. In the early autumn plants intended for fertilization can be seeded. Ploughed later on they will provide excellent nutrients for another greens.

Planting

Autumn, especially October until mid November, is the best moment for planting shrubs, bushes and trees, because it enables them to root in before  winter and begin vegetation in early spring. In special cases trees should be protected from rabbits and/or rodents.

Pruning

Some gardeners prune trees and bushes already in autumn, risking that those plants may be less resistant to extremely low temperatures. It is strongly suggested to prune trees and shrubs in early March.

Winter protection

Before temperatures drop below zero, it is necessary to wrap trees and other plants to protect them from cold in the winter period. The most often used means for that purpose are corrugated paper, hay or rags.

Prevention

After all the fruit and vegetables are harvested the garden should be cleaned for winter. All remains such as leafs, shoots, sprouts, rotten fruit need to be removed. Those remains are often used by bacteria, fungi or pests as a way to hibernate through winter until spring and then attack again. The above procedures should be treated as one of many steps in garden treatment and pest/disease prevention. In addition to manual or mechanical prevention, biological means such as herbicides and pesticides should be implemented.

Spraying

Using our sprayer at this of a year proves to be very effective and sometimes necessary:

-   When growing apple and pear trees after all the fruit are harvested the leafs should be sprayed with urea to increase the amount of nitrogen in them. This will prevent the scab from developing in early spring.

-   After pruning spraying after cutting off old sprouts and diseased shrubs will prevent a potential disease from spreading further
